An Entrepreneurial Study of Homelessness Solutions Abstract

Donna Reeves Internship Summer of 2013

The problem of homelessness is plaguing our nation. Many people are working hard to end this plight. The entrepreneurial solutions include soup kitchens, emergency shelters, transitional and supportive housing, and food pantries. In Key West there are many homeless outreach organizations offering a wide range of solutions.

My name is Donna Reeves from Bedford, KY. I am a second semester sophomore majoring in business with a concentration in management.  Ed McCormack will act as primary faculty and Dr. Peter Hackbert will be the secondary faculty member for my summer 2013 internship. The internship will be conducted in Key West, FL with Tom Callahan, as the site supervisor for St. Mary’s Outreach Mission.

Learning objectives include:

  • Gain an understanding of nonprofit management
  • Create a study of the causes of homelessness and entrepreneurial solutions through interviews with the homeless population, and directors of the 5 or 6 other homeless helping organizations in the city to better understand the causes of homelessness.
